Day 2 • Munich






















Day 4 • Lake Chiemsee
























In this tour, we discover the grandeur of Bavaria ’s heritage, tracing its history back to Roman times. The Beauty of Bavaria has attracted the faithful ones for many centuries.  Let’s rediscover it together through the eyes of Pope Benedict XVI.

Day 1 Departure from the USA
We begin our journey as we depart to Munich. Dinner and breakfast are served on board.


Day 2 Munich

We arrive in Munich, the capital of Bavaria. It is here that Pope Benedict XVI studied at the Catholic University, was consecrated a Bishop of the Archdiocese, and then was nominated a Cardinal in the Church of Our Lady. We visit the Church of St. Martin, Neukirchen beim hl. Blut, where his ministry began as a young priest. Then we drive to Marienplatz with the Old and New Town Hall and the gothic Frauenkirche. Dinner and overnight are in Munich. (B, D)


Day 3 • Marktl


Day 3 Munich/Marktl/Traunstein/Altotting
After breakfast, we drive to Marktl, a small town nestled along the river. This is the Pope's birthplace. We stop at the museum and the church of St. Oswald, which houses his baptismal font. We continue to Aschau au am Inn, where the Pope lived while attending primary school and received his First Holy Communion. We then drive to Traunstein, where the Pope attended St. Michael's School and celebrated his first Mass. Continuing on, we drive to Altotting, a pilgrim site since the 8th century, and visit the Shrine of Our Lady, the Chapel of Mercy, St. Konrad Church, and the Basilica of St. Anna. We have dinner and stay the night in Altötting.


Day 4 Altotting/Lake Chiemsee/Altotting
Today we sail on Lake Chiemsee, flowing between Rosenheim and Salzburg, to visit the royal buildings at Herrenchiemsee and the Frauenchiemsee Monastery. Returning to Altotting we have some time to relax, explore on our own, or shop. Dinner and overnight are again in Altotting.


Day 5 Freising/Regensburg

We depart for Freising, where Pope Benedict XVI was ordained into the priesthood in the Cathedral of St. Korbinian. The Pope also served as a professor at the Theological University. We stop in Regensburg-Pentling to see the home of the Ratzinger family (the Pope’s family) and then have dinner and stay the night in Regensburg.


Day 6 • Regensburg



Day 6 Regensburg

This morning, we enjoy a tour of this very picturesque city with buildings dating back to Roman and Medieval times. Our first stop is the famous gothic-style Cathedral where George Ratzinger, the Pope's brother, was a bandmaster for the Regensburger Domspatzen. We visit the University of Regensburg, where the Pope taught as a professor. We have dinner and stay overnight in Regensburg.


Day 7 Regensburg/Munich/Hometown, U.S.A.

We transfer to Munich Airport for our flight home, arriving the same day, bringing with us many wonderful memories.
